Ancient Artifacts can go back as far as the Persian Dynasty when the Persians who were a nomadic people settled on the western Iranian plateau between the Tigris River and the Persian Gulf around 850 B.C.   The early ceramics and pottery were unglazed and used daily for tasks like carrying water or storing grains.  As this region developed and was conquered by the outside world, the art was influenced the Romans, early Christian art, Byzantine styles and the Chinese.

Advancement in Art Techniques

This area became known for glass and pottery production developing techniques like glazing dating to the 8th century where blue-painted pieces using opaque glaze were created in the Middle East or stonepaste ceramics dating back to the 9th century also from the Middle East.  These became known as Islamic Art.

The metalwork they developed was distinct and a big contrast to those found in the European areas of the same time.  Most of these objects were made in bronze, brass and steel, containing intricate decoration which sometimes contained inlays of gold, silver or black niello, similar to the cloisonne technique.
